So anyway, would Kentucky beat an NBA team?
Although Deadspin had the most appropriate response to former Maryland coach Gary Williams’ claim that Kentucky would beat the Washington Wizards, there is actually a current example that proves him wrong.
To be fair, Williams stressed that he was talking about just one game, and the hypothetical stated that the Wizards would be playing their third game in three nights. But just look at Team USA results in international competitions that don’t involve NBA players. When college players face professionals from around the world, they’re not exactly dominating.
Williams partly sustains his argument describing how Kentucky plays against its competition. But these Wildcats wouldn’t even be able to defeat great college teams of the past like the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels of the early 1990s. Kentucky is a great college team now — I’m not sure they’d even be in the top ten 20 years ago.
